The credits are rolling for a movie industry legend. Jack Valenti, creator of the film rating system, passed away last week. I’ve written a brief speech in honor of Mr. Valenti, but it includes drug use, strong sexual content and the word [beep] three times, and I don’t think it’ll make it past the censors. So, instead... I’m going to read you a list of seven older movies. For each one, you need to tell me if it was rated # PG, or... # R. If it’s... % PG, # press 1. If it’s... % R, # press 2. To skip it, press 4. Each correct answer % adds 250 bucks to the box office. But each mistake % loses 250. And our run time will be about 30 seconds. % Okay, roll film! Questions: Footloose Breakfast Club Jaws Poltergeist Animal House Octopussy

You somehow came across the alternate text when the Flash file doesn't load. Probably a hiccup in your browser or something. That, BTW, is another "security" hole (also possible to see when viewing the page source). I realize that it's important to try to make media disabled accessible, but it's also another opportunity to cheat. And the YDKJ episodes don't seem to have the same problem.

Don't worry... It confuses us too. Just like the fact that sexual content ranks far worse than violence, I think there is even a description that specifies cartoonish violence but nothing corresponds in terms of sexuality. And don't even think of understanding the foul language guidelines. Well, we also have G, butSubmitted by galaxiaad on Tue, 2007-05-01 09:54.

"G, PG, M, MA and R make more sense than just PG, PG13+ and R." The ratings themselves are largely equivalent amongst the US, UK, and Australia, for instance. G = G = U The problem with the MPAA is their criteria for ratings, their lack of accountability, the reviews process, their treatment of sex/language compared to violence, and the fact that the social stigma that accompanies the NC-17 means such films will not be shown or advertised and films that don't really belong in the R category end up there...whereas in other countries the 'no kids at all, period' rating is mainstream, is the real problem....not the ratings themselves. 7/7, and 4/64 TheSubmitted by WWEdeadman on Tue, 2007-05-01 03:37.

5/7, 12/78 Not having a clue about the rating system, except remembering about PG13 made this one pretty hard. Then again from that PG13 I kinda figured R meant for everybody. (Insert smart comment about the American rating system that actually gives a reason for having mentioned my thoughts on how to figure out the rating here.) 7/7...4/108...my best yet!!!Submitted by sioker on Tue, 2007-05-01 07:10.

Octop***y got a PG? With a name like Octop***y, you'd think it would get an R or something, seeing how some people are uptight about p***y, or whatever you call your cat. This just in: English teachers the world over are cringing over the above sentence, not just because it mentioned p***y. One final thought: P***y. Jaws was PG? Apparently seeing human body parts bitten off is definitely something children should see. Also, why not give a James Bond film with a suggestive title PG? Wow Jaws PG. Just goes to show that Stephen Speilberg gets ANYTHING he wants! They want him to give Transformers an R or do some cutting and he says he's not and that he wants the PG rating. I really really hope nothing gets cut cause that movie looks real good. |
And it isn’t even the awesome, hot kind of mature content. So please use discretion.
